  • Updated Clinical Practice Guidlines

Despite prior publication of ventilator liberation clinical practice guidelines (CPG), many questions related to the details of bedside implementation remained. Six AARC members with extensive experience and knowledge on the topic, as well as a medical librarian formed a guidelines committee to assess and address the issues. Using evidence-based methodology, the team crafted recommendations which were recently published online in Respiratory Care.

"Guidance related to spontaneous breathing trials is important to help standardize procedures, timing and support in determining ventilator liberation. Our recommendations and methodology met international standards and relied solely on evidence-based publications," said CPG Development Director, Lynda Goodfellow, EdD, RRT, FAARC.
